New teachers and educators who who opted into ProComp for the 2005-2006 contract year are eligible for tuition reimbursement during the current school year.
The $1,000 maximum lifetime tuition reimbursement is built into the Knowledge and Skills component of ProComp, and is designed to be used for higher education courses, professional conferences or other professional development opportunities. This policy recognizes that teachers who pursue and learn new instructional strategies and content often see results in their students’ growth. This benefit gives teachers compensation and an opportunity for self-directed professional development.
Some guidelines exist for accessing tuition reimbursement. The teacher must be under ProComp, and the coursework must be relevant to the teacher’s current or proposed assignment. A “Tuition Reimbursement Proposal and Request Form” must be submitted with support documentation and be approved by a principal, manager, or team leader.
Tuition, registration fees (for seminars and workshops) and books are reimbursable if the grade was Pass, C or better.
