April Edition Of DPS Today On Denver Channel 8 Features In-Depth Look At New Professional

Compensation System For Teachers

The April 2004 edition of "DPS Today," the monthly television show about issues and progress in Denver Public Schools, features an in-depth look at the district’s proposed new professional compensation system, also known as ProComp.

Members of Denver Classroom Teachers Association (DCTA) recently ratified the dramatically new salary system that will pay teachers for improving student achievement, as well as other accomplishments that closely align their work with Denver Public Schools (DPS) instructional goals and priorities.

Through the Professional Compensation System for Teachers - ProComp - teachers can increase career earnings by improving student achievement, earning successful professional evaluations, working in the most academically challenged schools and advancing their skills and knowledge.

Guests for the April edition of DPS Today include:

  • Jerry Wartgow, Denver Public Schools Superintendent
  • Brad Jupp, Team Leader of the "Design Team," the group of teachers and administrators who managed the four-year Pay for Performance pilot that led to development of the proposed "ProComp" system

The show begins airing Thursday, April 1 on Denver 8 cable The show can be seen every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 a.m. and every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. throughout the month.

Denver cable station 22, the DPS channel on Comcast Cable in Denver, also re-broadcasts "DPS Today." On Sundays, the show for the current month airs at 4 p.m., followed by a screening of the show from the previous month at 4:30 p.m. On Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., the current show also airs.

These re-broadcasts are also carried on Channel 48, an ITFS microwave channel that is only received within all DPS facilities.
