Teachers Thinking of Opting into Procomp Need Transcripts
Teachers and student services professionals who are considering opting into ProComp should first order their transcripts for evaluation. Under the ProComp agreement, teachers and SSPs who opt in during the first two open windows will receive a special incentive--a buyout of their unused education credits.
In order to receive the proper initial salary placement they must have transcripts evaluated. Official transcripts should be reviewed by teachers to be certain they are correct and should then be sent to:
ProComp Transcript Evaluator
900 Grant Street, Room 504
Denver, Colorado 80203
· Transcripts must not be copies. They should have a raised registrar seal or signature or be on safety paper.
· Credits must be from a regionally accredited 4-year college or university.
· Credits must be converted to semester (not quarter) credits.
· Credits from international colleges or universities are OK but they must be first evaluated by the World Education Service (312-222-0882)
A team of retired DPS personnel, including teachers and principals will review the transcripts. After the review, teachers and SSPs will be called in for a face to face meeting with HR personnel where they can get answers to any questions about ProComp.
Tuition Reimbursement OK’d for 05-06
Teachers who opt into ProComp during the 2005-2006 contract year will be eligible for tuition reimbursement during the current school year if voters pass the mill levy.
The $1,000 maximum lifetime tuition reimbursement is built into the Knowledge and Skills component of ProComp, and is designed to be used for higher education courses, professional conferences or other professional development opportunities. This policy recognizes that teachers who pursue and learn new instructional strategies and content often see results in their students’ growth. This benefit gives teachers compensation and an opportunity for self-directed professional development.
Some Guidelines exist for accessing tuition reimbursement. The teacher must opt into ProComp, and the coursework must be relevant to the teacher’s current or proposed assignment. A “Tuition Reimbursement Proposal and Request Form” must be submitted with support documentation and be approved by a principal, manager, or team leader. Tuition, registration fees (for seminars and workshops) and books are reimbursable if the grade was Pass, C or better.
